• I assume you're referring to the kid that owned him on the high school sex talk thing yesterday.  That pretty much did it in for me too.  When he cuts a kid off for using his own words against him, in reference to the book he wrote, that just pisses me off to no end.  I mean there are conservatives in this country that at least try to reach out to another perspective and rationality, and clearly O'Reilly isn't looking for them as an audience.  I find it particularly troubling that the vast majority of media outlets recently have been playing to the outspoken, logically impaired masses from both liberal and conservative sides.  I always thought that conservative meant traditional or restrained in style, not blathering on like liberal extremists in an equally irrational fury.CNN sponsored party debates cut off logical candidates in favor of close-minded puppets that simply reflect the very basic of standards that their largest support group responds to.  On the democratic side, Hillary and Obama harp on how much Bush screwed up the war when in reality, Hillary endorsed it in the beginning and even her husband was the first to coin the "War on Terror" thing when he was in office.  With Fox, it was the same thing.  During the Republican debate, Ron Paul was the only one who didn't sound like a complete tool and as a result, he had his mic pulled while Giuliani gets an extra 10 minutes to talk about he was the guy who manned up and stuck with NYC during the 9/11 crisis, when he doesn't even understand what is going on elsewhere in the world.  To me it sounds like Rudy is pulling  Roosevelt in WWII.  He wanted to stay as President until the crisis was averted and freedom prevails.  The only problem is that during Roosevelt's extended term, the nation was united under one heading, which was to destroy a real evil in the world that did actually affect everyone.  He also had support outside of one city, I mean, country.  Giuliani, on the other hand, is using a single event to give just cause for all the nonsense he has brought forth in NYC, and now he wants to use it to justify his lust for the Oval Office.  Sorry, but a one-trick-pony like 9/11 just isn't gonna cut it.  We are one island in a big big world.  The big news companies are not allowing for a moderate society, you must be extreme in some direction to even be heard.
  
  I think the cause for this is that it is coming up on election year, people are prepping for the primaries, and mass media is no longer just teevee.  The internet has taken over as the main form of mediation when it comes to debating and such.  Talk show hosts are being replaced by bloggers, news anchors are being replaced by RSS feeds, and installments of Hardball and the O'Reilly Factor are simply ways that mass media are trying to bring viewers back.  It's like an attention whore that is losing to the cool new kid on the playground.  The only way to get people looking at them again is to start kicking, screaming, and name calling.
  
  Sadly, all I can think during all of this is "England Prevails."  (V for Vendetta for those that don't get it.  Go educate yourself on what we are becoming.)

• i would like to agree with your assessment that the media panders to the "outspoken, logically impaired masses from both liberal and conservative sides."  just because i'm singling out BO'R doesn't mean i think there aren't any liberal anchors out there that have the same traits.  however, i will say that keith olbermann is very refreshing.  despite his direct attacks on W and BO'R, he's always well-informed and backs up his statements with solid logic and historical facts -- something that you just don't see in today's media.
