Daring to be different? Breaking from the mold? Your right brain is waking up?
creativity is spawned from logic. It requires abstract creativity to test logical progression. Without this testing, any typical progression is merely assumed to be true.
Case in point, Jack Thompson is stating that violent video games make violent killers, end of story. Many assume he is right because there hasn't been any type of mainstream contradiction to this logic. But I think there is a large amount of other factors involved in the scenario that media outlets are blatantly forgetting more and more as days go by. Clearly, someone must be mentally unstable, lacking clear judgment between what is right and wrong, or if not lacking in judgment, then the capability to restrain themselves, hence the unstable part. Then there are the parents of such people who were too lazy to teach these differences in right and wrong and simply let the child become involved in video games as a pacifier so that the parents wouldn't have to raise them. And then there are seemingly more and more cases of parents who never knew the difference either, and pass that mistake on to their offspring.
While video games become more and more graphic and grotesque, it's easy to picture where one such as Thompson can refer to games as "training" for such acts of brutality, the the truth of the matter is that we are all capable of doing such things if pushed to the brink as many of these people are, or let loose completely unrestrained as some people are.
Sadly, testing such cases is almost always impossible because the one who opens fire into a crowd of people for no apparent reason other than "Jon Carmack made me do it" is unable to be tested logically because the suspect usually kills himself in the process.
That's what I think about that, it probably doesn't make any sense, I just reacted after hearing what Thompson said just hours after the VT shooting Monday. What a douche bag.
I think you should get a piano, but nemo is right, start with a small keyboard and work up, they get costly. Finger painting is cheaper, and lets you make a mess.- [ 2007.04.18 | 6:57:57am ]
